PhD PROGRAM
We have a centralized US-style graduate school, with a centralized admission process. More information about the PhD program is available at the web site of the graduate school at ISTA.
Our yearly call for PhD students has a deadline in early January. Application is free of charge and must be submitted online. Students are also encouraged to contact their perspective host group.
If you are interested in our PhD program, but the deadline is too far away or just passed, there may be internship opportunities available. Please, inquire with the research group of your interest.
POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAM
IST-BRIDGE Postdoctoral Fellowship

Duration: 2 years
The IST-BRIDGE program at ISTA offers fully funded postdoctoral fellowships for highly qualified candidates who have completed or will soon complete their PhD or equivalent in chemistry, computer science, earth and astrosciences, life sciences, mathematics, and physics.
IST-PLUS Postdoctoral Fellowship

Duration: 2 years
The ISTAPlus postdoctoral fellowship has a centralized application and admission process. This is a prestigious program where you have ample opportunity to take part in the vibrant research scene at IST Austria.

INTERNSHIPS
There are two ways in which you can apply to do an internship at IST Austria: the ISTernship summer program and year-round scientific internships that are described below. Which route you opt for depends mostly on your availability. If you’re available for an internship during the summer (May – September), you are encouraged to apply for the ISTernship, the deadline for which is yearly in February. Otherwise, please apply directly to the research group. If you have any questions about our internships, feel free to contact us by email.
Internship Summer Program

When they take place: in summer (May-Sep)
Duration: 8-12 weeks
The ISTernship summer program is an internship program with a centralized application and admission process. The benefits of joining the ISTernship program are that you will be part of an international group of interns and have the opportunity to showcase your research results in an ISTernship symposium, attend mini-lectures on a range of research topics specially offered to ISTerns, as well as obtain additional support with housing. This is a prestigious program where you have ample opportunity to take part in the vibrant research scene at ISTA.
Year-Round Scientific Internships
How to apply: directly to individual professor
When they take place: anytime throughout the year
Duration: up to 1 year
The second way you can join as an intern is through year-round scientific internships, which is where you get in touch directly with the faculty member whom you’re interested in working with and agree with them when the internship start and end dates will be. The duration of these internships can be up to one year.
