I mean REALLY hot?
When it is cold and dreary outside many Viennese people are looking for warm and cozy spots, like a spa or sauna. From cheap, great offers in the city’s indoor pools to luxury options, we have all kinds of saunas in Vienna for you.
Most saunas are mixed (women and men), but sometimes women just want to be alone with other ladies. Fortunately, this is taken into account when taking a sauna in Vienna and almost every sauna also has special offers and days on which only women have access to the saunas. It’s best to check the website of the sauna that appeals to you in Vienna.
According to 1000things these are the best Saunas and Hammams in Vienna:
Sauna and shower baths in the city of Vienna
A pecularity from the past are the Viennese shower baths. Some of them still extist and are definitely worth a visit. These include the Apostelbad in the 3rd district, the Einsiedlerbad in the 5th, the Hermannbad in the 7th and the Penzinger Bad in the 14th district. In addition to a shower area, you will also find saunas there. There are also hot and cold pools, steam cabins and a relaxation zone. The saunas are all kept simple, the focus here is definitely on the procedure and the effect and not so much on flair and ambience.
You won’t find any special luxury here. However, the saunas are moderately priced at 16.60 euros and a reduced rate of 13.50 euros for up to five hours. Before you start: The baths all have different opening times and different dates on which the sauna is open to mixed audiences.
- entry to sauna & shower bath: €16.60
- in all shower baths: Finnish sauna, steam bath, cold pool
- Penzinger Bad & Einsiedlerbad: infrared cabin

Vienna’s indoor pools
Vienna’s indoor swimming pools are of course in no way inferior when it comes to sauna facilities and have very presentable saunas that invite you to warm up and sweat it out. These include the Amalienbad, the Jörgerbad and the Floridsdorfer Bad. With so much to choose from, it’s not easy to pick a sauna that you personally like.
tip: the Amalienbad in the 10th district! Not only does it have a beautiful Art Deco interior, you can also take part in guided infusions. The best thing to do is simply browse through the programme. Here, too, you pay 16.60 euros and a reduced rate of 13.50 euros for the sauna.

Alternative for a great warm-up: the Hammam
The oriental bathhouse has little to do with the classic Finnish sauna. This type of cleansing goes back to a centuries-old tradition. Originally, it was a place for ritual ablutions in Islam. Nowadays, these bathhouses are a place to meet and are often advertised as a wellness oasis.
The procedures can vary depending on the bathhouse. It always starts with washing with clear water. This is followed by a steam bath, where the pores open up and the muscles relax. It is customary to lie on a kind of heated stone or platform, where you are then soaped up. We warmly recommend this treat for body and soul!
In Vienna, for example, the Aux Gazelles at the beginning of the Mariahilfer Strasse offers a combination of hammam and spa. The basic ritual here costs 30 euros. You can also treat yourself to various hammam rituals at the Asiwan Spa in the 1st district, where prices start at 105 euros.

Aux Gazelles | Rahlgasse 5, 1060 Vienna | office@auxgazelles.at

Saunas for Gay or Bi People
The Kaiserbründlbad is probably one of the most impressive saunas in Vienna: lavish murals, decorations and a lot of splendour. Unfortunately, women rarely get to see this architecture and when they do, it’s on official guided tours. This sauna is a favourite haunt of the homosexual scene in Vienna when it comes to a sauna for men only. The entrance fee is 25 euros. There are special offers from Monday to Thursday, for example reduced admission on Mondays, where you can get in for 4 euros less. In addition to sauna offers, there are also massages, a relaxation area and events.
Address: Weihburggasse 18-20 | 1010 Vienna
Open 7 days a week, the Apollo City Sauna also attracts visitors with various events and you can also discover the whole experience package on two floors. Saturday is ‘Dive “sity Day’ – when women are also allowed in the sauna. The regular entrance fee is 19 euros.
Address: Wimbergergasse 34 | 1070 Wien
The Papillon Bi-Sauna Vienna is a place where all like-minded people and sauna sympathisers can meet. Whether you feel most comfortable in lingerie, with a towel or naked – everything is allowed here. There are no adverts for this sauna on the street, so just walk along the corridor inside and turn left in the inner courtyard. Ladies pay 14 euros, as a couple you pay 24 euros and men can enter as a single person for 28 euros.
